Is delegation a tool for employee engagement?
There continues to be a lot of work being done on employee engagement in surveys. A recent Gallup poll indicates that the level of employee satisfaction is around 13%. Another study has found is that there is a direct correlation between employee engagement, employee satisfaction, and the level of the challenge that the employee is being given on a regular basis. An actual linear correlation.
What does this mean? One of the five practices of a great leader is to enable others to act. This is the piece pertaining to delegation. So as a leader, if you delegate effectively to the people on your team, you will find that the level of their challenge in their job will increase. As the level of their challenge increases, so does their level of satisfaction, which creates more employee engagement.
This is really a great benefit of delegation. Obviously, the other benefit of delegation is that you have more time to lead and look at the big picture.
If you want to increase employee engagement, get your leadership team, and you in particular, to delegate more. That will increase satisfaction in the workplace.
