Characteristics of Admired Leaders_Article.png

Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner have surveyed hundreds of thousands of people and asked them to pick from a menu of 20 the top characteristics admired most in leaders. The results are very interesting but not for the reasons you might think.

The top 4 characteristics are: Honest, Inspiring, Competent and Forward looking

I am sure when you read these you are not surprised. What's most interesting is that these 4 characteristics are so much more highly valued than the others on the list. Just to give you an idea, the 5th most valued characteristic is 20 percentage points below #4- ranked ‘Forward Thinking’. And, to top it off, none of the remaining 16 characteristics made it above the 50% threshold. Clearly, according to those surveyed, these stand out in admired leaders.

For a list of the 20 characteristics of admired leaders surveyed and the most recent survey results with representative percentages of respondents please email me and I will happily share this information.
